Description

The original owners founded Brar Sweets in the 1980’s, and the first location was established in Toronto which served a limited variety: namely sweets and snacks, such as Samosas, Pakoras, fresh Jalebi and Ladoo. It gained recognition in the ethnic base community as one of the first Indian sweet shops in Toronto’s “Little India” among other ethnic restaurants, clothing, grocery and house-ware outlets available to the growing East Indian community in the GTA at that time. In 1991, Brar Sweets was taken over by the Pabla Family, at which time the sweet shop also received a “restaurant” label. Brar Sweets and Restaurant now had a new owner and fresh principles: Everything was to be made with the highest quality ingredients and most food items (such as snacks and curries) were not to be kept for use the next day. But the most revolutionary step taken by the new owners was to establish a 100% vegetarian restaurant. A move that would prove to be both risky at the time when no vegetarian restaurants existed (with the exception of some south Indian Dosa restaurants), and beneficial, as it made space in the hearts of vegetarians and food lovers alike. However, the move that would really make Brar Sweets and Restaurant a true leader in the ethnic Indian community was the shift from a quick-serve restaurant to a casual-dine buffet restaurant. As a result of the new variety of food items that were introduced to customers, in 1994 the operating name was befittingly changed to Brar’s Food Culture of India. Today, years of success and the development of trademark recipes has led the company to consider opening a chain of Brar’s Food Culture of India restaurants to serve the ever growing customer base fueled by the love of great tasting vegetarian food. Our Mission Statement It is our mission to build a lasting brand that stands for the highest food and product quality and customer service while introducing innovative ideas to the food culture.

we go here atleast once every month or so.. each time great food. I tried starving myself to truly make use of the sheer amount of food here but no use.. there's just too much and they all taste very very good :). It is an exhaustive amount what with so many appetizers (pani puri, dahi puri, other chaat), so many main courses, so many dessert options (cake, fruit salad, halwa, rasmalai, gulab jamun, various fruits). With the 'tava' food (cooked/fried on a large frying pan with oodles of oil) it almost reminds me of the 'dhaba' style food we get back in north India. If you don't want the buffet on a particular day and want to just get their 'thali' that too is amazing as they give you a choice of 3 curries from the lot that they have there and a choice between either a sweet-dish or 'raitha' (tiny pieces of either cucumber, boondi or tomatoes in curd) and a choice between breads (naan/roti). Absolutely love it, love it, LOVE it!
