The word “euthanasia” literally means “good death.” The procedure will be explained, according to your interest level and comfort. Please feel free to ask questions if needed. The pace of procedure is dictated by you and as per your pet’s requirements A sedation injection is given to ensure your pet is comfortable. Once you and your pet are ready, the final euthanasia medication is given, usually in a vein. It works very rapidly, within seconds in most cases. We will then confirm that your pet has passed on by checking vitals and reflexes. After, you may continue to spend as much time as you need. Following injection of the euthanasia drug, your pet will immediately become deeply and irreversibly unconscious as the drug stops brain function. Death is quick and painless. Your pet may move his/her legs or head or breathe deeply several times after the drug is given, but these are reflexes and don’t mean that your pet is in pain or is suffering.
